Apple Activities for Fall

I love fall for so many reasons. It is absolutely bursting with colours and natural items that can be used for activities (among other things!). From colourful leaves, acorns, pinecones, corn, pumpkins and of course apples!

Incorporating apples into our activities, is one of my favourite ways to keep busy in fall. Today we used some of our apples in this simple to set up washing activity.

I simply love this idea! Not only is it extremely easy to set up but it also great and working on fine motor skills.

How to Set Up An Apple Washing Station

To set up an apple washing station for your kids, first grab your sensory bin or large tupperware container and fill it with water. I did not add any soap for this activity because we planned to eat the apple afterwards. If you want to do an apple foam activity check out these this idea or this one.

Beside the sensory bin include some sponges and a soft scrub brush. I had a scrub brush but decide against using it because the bristles were much too tough and might damage the apples as my kids were playing.

Along with sponges and brushes, add a tea towel for drying after the apples are cleaned as well as a smaller container to place the clean apples into. I used our bushel basket from Learning Resources.

Invite your child to gently wash and scrub the apples off. You can tell them that even though you can’t see the dirt on the apples they still have pesticides and germs that you need to be scrub off in order to make them clean enough to eat!

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.
