For this fun activity I gathered up all our baby dolls that did not have hair. Since, I was going to be adding a ‘wig’ to the baby dolls and my daughter was going to be cutting the hair I didn’t want there to be other hair on the babies’ heads to get in the way.

Then I folded a sheet of construction paper lengthwise and cut along the folded line. Then I used my scissors to cut the paper into thin strands leaving the bottom of the sheet intact. This will be the part that will go around the baby’s head.

I grabbed one of the babies and put the ‘wig’ around the it’s head. You want the ‘wig’ to fit tightly on the baby’s head so that it does not slip off as my daughter was cutting it hair.

Wrap the construction paper around the head and secure it with a piece of tape. I placed the tape on the head band of the wig so that it did not come in contact with the baby.

On some of the babies I placed construction paper wigs with the hair sticking up and some with the hair sticking down.

Finally, I invited my daughter to come and give the babies haircuts and she immediately dived right in! I told her to hold the baby by the neck in order the babies head from tilting as she cut.

Total Hit

My five year old absolutely loved this baby doll haircutting activity! She talked to the babies and reassure them that cutting their hair wouldn’t hurt at all. Styling the hair as she went. I initially made 5 but quickly created 5 more so she could continue her baby doll hair salon!

This would be a great activity to do for a child with a fear of getting their hair cut.

Skills Developed

This cutting activity is a great way to help develop and scissors skills.
