HAPPY TODDLER PLAYTIME

The Best Cardboard Box Haunted House

INSIDE: Create an epic haunted house this Halloween with your kids out of cardboard! This amazing Halloween craft project is fun for all ages!

How to Make A Cardboard Box Haunted House

Gather your supplies.

You will need a large cardboard box for this activity. I used an Amazon Prime box. Cut your cardboard as shown in the pictures below. You want to cut the sides of the box but leave one end attached.

Use that end to trace the a triangle to create the front of the roof. Use the piece of cardboard you cut off to create the roof. Tape the roof to the top of the box using duct tape.

Painting your Cardboard Haunted House

If you can, take the painting of the box outside. I started out using regular black paint and quickly realized that it wasn’t providing the coverage I wanted so I switched to black chalkboard paint. This is great because you can easily use chalk markers to decorate the house later on.

Completely paint the entire house black and let it dry.

Once it is dry its time to cut and decorate! You can use the scissor to cut a door and window in your home.

We used a little bit of everything to decorate our house. Remember to use what you have at home. You don’t have to purchase anything for this activity, use what you have available to you and get creative. Here is a list of a few things you probably have at home that you can use to decorate your haunted house:

  • construction paper
  • cotton balls
  • stickers
  • sticks

For the full list of the items we used to decorate our haunted house see the supplies list below.

We used liquid chalk makers to draw a grave yard and add details to the haunted house. We had lots of space to decorate, including the roof! Adding stickers was a great way for my 2 year old toddlers to enjoy this activity as well.

Once you have decorated your house you can display it on your front porch!

My kids are 6 and 2 years old.
