This is a fun Valentine’s Day learning activity using one of my favourite materials – contact paper!

Proud of her work!

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

Supplies

Directions

Unroll your contact paper. Using the red sharpie draw 10 large hearts on the back.

Tape the corners of the contact paper onto the wall using the painter’s tape and peel off the paper backing revealing the sticky side of the contact paper. Make sure that the sticky side is facing out.

Pulling jewels out of her magic box!

First have your toddler or preschooler stick the foam numbers in order onto the hearts.

Introducing the Number Zero

For a little twist in this activity we did the number 0 instead of doing 10. This is a great opportunity to introduce the number zero to your little one if they have not encountered it before. With preschoolers who are familiar with it they will love showing off that they know that nothing goes on the heart with the zero!

HEARTS0

I placed all of our craft jewels into a small box, perfect for little preschooler or toddler hands. It made it a bit more fun for her to pull them out and stick them on the sticky wall.

This is a great activity for practicing counting but it is also a great fine motor skill activity!

Helpful Tip

Don’t have craft jewels? No problem! Just use whatever your little one really loves. The best way to get a toddler or preschooler to do a learning activity like this is to incorporate a manipulative that they enjoy playing with. Try foam blocks or Lego or playdoh!
