Sensory bags are a great indoor activity for kids big and small. They can be for simple sensory enjoyment like the Green Pea sensory bag or they can have a specific learning goal such as the Ten-Frame Sensory Bag. Either way sensory bags are a great way to entertain and educate kids at home.

How I use sensory bags

I like to use sensory bags as quick distractions that allow me to clean up after breakfast or lunch or prep for dinner. For my toddlers this mean that they will typically spend anywhere between 5-7 minutes with a sensory bag at a time.

I will tape the sensory bag on our sensory table or craft table, which is out of the way and in a safe place. This allows give my kids the space to play with the sensory bag safely and it’s not something that is in the way of other daily activities. I can also leave it out longer allowing them to explore and play with it at different times in the day. It is also in a spot where I can also keep an eye on them as they play.

Use an alcohol wipe to remove the white label from the ziplock bag. Use the black sharpie to draw an Easter Basket on the ziplock bag. Also draw several Easter eggs inside the basket with the black sharpie. Colour in the Easter eggs using the colourful sharpies. Add clear hair gel to the ziplock bag so that the entire area around the Easter Basket has gel. Add the Pom Poms in the same colour as the Easter eggs that your drew. Move them to the side of the basket.

How to play

Point to a coloured Easter egg in the basket and ask your toddler what colour it is. Have them “hunt” for that same colour Pom Pom and them move it with their fingers to the Easter egg. Continue identifying and searching for Pom Pom Easter eggs until the entire Easter Basket is filled!
