Feed the Squirrel: Fine Motor Activity

Create this fun scoop & pour activity for your little one to help feed the squirrels this Fall! It’s a great fine motor Autumn activity for toddlers.

It’s getting colder outside and the days are getting shorter and that means that squirrels everywhere are hurrying around trying to find enough food before winter comes!

This is a fun fine motor activity for Fall and a great way to talk about all the activity happening to many animals in your neighbouhood during September, October and November.

How to Create the Feed the Squirrel: Fine Motor Autumn Activity

Take your clean and empty dish soap bottle and remove the label.

Cut a long thick piece of brown paper and use the scissors to cut the end. Glue it to one side of the bottle.

Cut out ears from the brown paper and smaller ears from the pink paper. Glue the pink inner ear onto the brown ears and then glue them onto the front of the bottle.

Glue the googly eyes under the ears and the brown or red or black pom pom under the eyes for the nose.

Using a black sharpie draw a mouth and teeth under the nose.

Set it aside for the glue to dry.

Sensory Bin Set Up

Fill your sensory bin with birdseed and add fine motor scoopers and measuring spoons and the squirrel you made.

Have your little one fill the bottle up with the birdseed feeding the squirrel using the tools.

My four year old loved this activity. She fed the squirrel and then dumped it out and filled it up again several times. She used the Handy Scoopers to fill little buckets which she then used to feed the squirrel.

This is a great scoop and fill activity which a easy to set up and fun for little ones. This activity is also great for developing  fine motor skills and hand eye coordination. It is also a fantastic activity to do during a Fall unit in preschool.
