I am a big fan of increasing the scale of regular activities by making them BIGGER! It is a great way to keep little ones engaged and moving!

Check out my amazing round up of super fun and easy GIANT activities for outdoors and for indoors!

GIANT Dots & Boxes

Do you remember playing dots and boxes when you were a kid? It was one of those boredom busting games I used to play with my brother while we waited at the doctor’s appointments or anytime we were bored and had a sheet of paper and pen.

I know I would have loved to play a GIANT version of this game!

If you love this game, you will also love GIANT Word Search and GIANT Tic-Tac-Toe!

How to set up GIANT Dots and Boxes

Grab a giant sheet of Kraft paper and sharpie. There are a few ways you can to create the dots. You can use a ruler and measure approximately 10 cm or 4 inches between each dot.

Another way (and this is the way I used) is to use a small square box or square board book and take your black sharpie and place a dot on the paper at each corner of the book. Move the book down and create dots all the way down and across the sheet.

I created an 8×8 grid but you can make it as big or as small as you want.

How to Play Dots & Boxes

The rules for Giant Dots and Boxes are the same as the regular sized dots and boxes.

GIANT Dots & Boxes

Two players take turns adding a single horizontal or vertical line between two unjoined adjacent dots.

A player who completes the fourth side of a 1×1 box earns one point and takes another turn.

Record a point by writing your initial inside the box.

The game ends when no more lines can be placed. The winner is the player with the most points!

Such a Fun Game

This was such a fun game that my competitive 5 year old enjoyed! She was very eager to create boxes and so tended not to play strategically but eventually began to understand where to place her line.

This would be a fun game for siblings to play and you can make it slighly smaller than the one I created but still big enough to make it fun.

You can also use sidewalk chalk to create the dot grid and to create the boxes!
