Here’s how to get started:

Gather your supplies. The preparation time for this activity is about 2 minutes (if that!).

HEART PATTERNS

On a sheet of white craft paper draw three large hearts. I used Valentine’s Day colours to make my hearts (red, pink and purple).

Take your dot markers and create pattern along the lines of the heart.

Sit your little one in front of the hearts and go over the patterns with them so that they understand what the pattern is.

Hand the dot markers to them and ask them to continue making the pattern all along the heart.

Learning Opportunities

This activity is  great for practicing pattern making which is a key early math skill.

For younger toddlers keep the patterns simple just two colours. For kindergartners, you can have them make their own patterns on one of the hearts.
