Freshly fallen leaves are my favourite thing about Fall. The way they blanket our backyard in bright colours of yellow, gold, orange and red always makes me happy.

But I also get excited because I know I have a huge supply of a free and fun material for activities – leaves!

For this idea we used freshly fallen leaves with stamps for a fun and easy letter recognition activity.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started.

Supplies

Set Up

Nature Walk

The prep for this activity is very easy.

First, a fun nature walk. Nature walks are a great way to get outside during the Fall. But they can also be a great way to introduce new Fall related vocabulary.

Letter Leaves

This next part is for you. Using a black sharpie right the letters you want to work on with your toddler and preschooler.

Stamp Away

Next break out your alphabet stamps and ink pad and let the stamping begin!

STAMP6

On some leaves my daughter stamped just a several times and other leaves she just stamped once.

STAMP1

She used both the upper and lower case stamps on each leaf.

STAMP0

With each letter we discussed the sound and thought of words (Fall related, if we could think of them) that started with that sound.

STAMP5

This was a fun and easy letter recognition activity as well as a great fall activity!

This is such a creative fall craft idea. I wish my toddler would sit still long enough to do it!

Thank you! I know the feeling, just keep trying! Sometimes one day my 3 three year old isn’t interested in anything and other days she is totally into whatever I put in front of her.

  2. This is such a cute idea. Gets them out the house, gets them walking around, and also gets them familiar with letters. I love it.
