If your toddler is anything like mine, she loves a good treasure hunt. Combine that with shaving cream and you have an activity made in toddler heaven on your hands! In this activity, I have combined both a messy and clean sensory component along with number recognition.  Basically, your toddler or preschooler will love digging for numbers wrist deep in shaving cream!

Here’s what you will need to get started:

Set up:

With the sidewalk chalk write numbers 0 to 9. Put all the numbers into the large sensory bin and cover them with shaving cream. Add water to the small sensory bin or Tupperware container and place them side by side.

Ask your toddler to go digging for a number with her hands in the shaving cream. The numbers should be completely covered so that she cannot tell what the number is when she digs one out.

Then have her move over to the washing station to rinse off the shaving cream so that she can discover what number she found.

numberhunt4

Once the foam number is clean have her match it to the correct chalk number and repeat for all the numbers!

I LOVE ACTIVITIES WITH SEVERAL COMPONENTS

numberhunt5

My toddler loves this activity because it involved shaving cream and I love it because it has several different components to it. This not only extends the activity but also the learning!

First Part

The first component is the messy sensory part with the shaving cream dig. This is great for imagination and language skill development.

Second Part

Next is the clean sensory part with the washing station. Again another great opportunity for learning and developing language.

Final Part

Last is the number matching component. Here, of course, is where the academic part of the activity kicks in and your toddler can build on their number recognition skills.

numberhunt8

After we completed all the numbers, my toddler wanted to do it again! All I had to do was change out her washing station, help her rebury the numbers and she was off!
