HAPPY TODDLER PLAYTIME

Pom Pom Number Sweep

Getting my four year old to clean up after herself has not always been easy. But I find now that she has started kindergarten, she puts away her toys without even being asked! And dare I say that I think she actually enjoys tidying up her stuff and will tidy up her twin brother and sisters’ toys all on her own!

So when I decided to do a fun sweeping activity with pom poms she jumped at the chance.

Pom Pom Number Sweep is a fun way to practice counting as well incorporate work on gross motor skills.

Here’s how to set up Pom Pom Number Sweep!

Gather your supplies.

Arrange the numbers from your number puzzle in a large circle. If you do not have a number puzzle, foam numbers or magnetic number will do just fine!

I then asked my happy four year old to counting out one pom pom (easy peasy) and sweep it over to the number one.

Then I asked her to do the same for all the numbers.

Counting as You Go

This was a great counting practice. As she moved from one number to the next she had to counting out the pom poms each time making this a wonderful way to reinforce counting up to 20.

Gross Motor Practice

Sweeping is a great gross motor activity for preschoolers and kindergarten aged children and works on hand eye coordination as well!

So much fun and learning!
