Pumpkin Counting

Here is a fun and crazy quick to set up counting activity for Halloween that only requires two things and one excited toddler or preschooler.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

Set Up

On the cardboard tubes write the numbers 1 to 5 using a black sharpie. On the mini pumpkins use a white chalk marker to draw dots to represent one to five.

Demonstrate to your toddler or preschooler what you want them to do by standing a cardboard tube up straight.

Have then tell you what number it is and then have them find the pumpkin with the correct number of dots.

Then show them how to balance the pumpkin on top the correct tube. Have them try to do the same.

STEAM Activity

This fun STEAM activity is great for developing hand eye coordination, patience and problem solving as well as counting. It can also be very challenging for toddlers and even preschoolers.

It does require some patience. There were times when they will knock over a few by mistake and get frustrated.

Each time try to turn it into an opportunity to show them how to deal with situations that they find frustrating by not giving up and figuring out how to get the cardboard tube to stand up straight.
