Pumpkin Drawing

Decorating your pumpkins this Halloween does not have to be a messy affair!

If you are looking for an easy and fun and unique way to decorate your pumpkins with your toddler or preschooler this year that does now involve carving then this is the activity for you.

Here’s how to do it!

Grab the pumpkin or pumpkins you would like to decorate. We used several small pumpkins (the kind you use for baking) and a few mini pumpkins or decorative gourds.

Then I gave my four year old the Liquid Chalk Markers.

Now I must admit that I was a little hesitant giving up my precious Liquid Chalk Markers.

They are not an art supply that I allow her to use regularly so just the fact that she was allowed to use them made this activity special.

But as she began drawing on the pumpkins and creating fun designs and scribbles I realized how silly it was for me to covet the markers instead of letting her enjoy them!

Let the Chalk Dry

Liquid Chalk Markers go on wet and take a few seconds to a minute to dry.

So let your little one know not to touch their creation too soon otherwise it may smudge.

Great Activity

This also is a great activity to help practice holding and using a pen or pencil for younger toddlers.

Drawing on the surface of the pumpkin is a little different than drawing on paper and makes a fun and different way to work on writing skills.

Process Art

I had originally intended her to make faces on the pumpkins but of course she had her own ideas and I would not want it any other way!

She created some unique and beautiful designs that will make a great addition to our Fall and Halloween decorations around the house!
