Mirror play was a favourite activity for my older daughter when she was little. But with the hustle and bustle of life I had totally forgotten how much fun and engaging it can be! I decided it was time to dust it off and set up a mirror play combined with loose parts play for my twin toddlers and it was a total hit!

How to Set Up Rubber Duck Pond Mirror Play

Grab your supplies. For the mirror, you can use any mirror that you have handy. I used an IKEA wall mounted mirror.

Place your mirror on a soft surface and make sure to keep an eye on your little one at all times when they are playing with the mirror.

Grab your blue and green stones and rubber ducks. Invite your toddler or preschooler to create a pond for the ducks with the blue gems.

My 20 month old toddlers immediately started to place the coloured stones onto mirror at random. They also pretended to make the ducks swim in the mirrored pond by pounding them on the mirror giggling as they squeaked!

For older children, have them create patterns or shapes with the stones. When my 5 year old came home she also dived in and created a swirling blue pond with green lily pads out of the stones. My only regret is that I didn’t take a picture of it!
