Happy Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving in our family is a two day affair. First my mom’s house and then my sister-in-law’s farm.
Each year there are more kids, laughs and lively discussions. But the turkey dinner and all the fixings are always the highlight.
This sensory bin activity is a great way to prepare your toddler and preschoolers for all the excitement and food to come!
Here’s how to set it up!
Grab your large sensory bin and fill it with kernels. A little goes a long way so no need to fill it up a lot. Just enough to cover the bottom of the bin.
Add play food. I tried to add play food that reflected what we make and eat during Thanksgiving. Food such as pumpkins, potatoes, meat, and corn. But I also add other vegetables that we eat everyday.
Next add a few seasonal gourds and mini pumpkins. This will add a realistic feel to the bin.
Add toy pots and pans and some cooking utensils. For fun I also added some oven mitts, apron and chef’s hat. Also add plates and cutlery.
I also added some acrylic leaves and pine cones to make it feel more like Fall. And you are done.
Time to Cook!
Have your little one prepare a huge feast using all the toys and sensory items! Once your little chef has finished preparing their Thanksgiving feast they can serve it up to their friends and family!
I set this up near my kitchen so that she could play with it while I cooked. She brought down her dolls and a few stuffed animals served them a yummy Thanksgiving dinner!
I first did this activity with my daughter when she was 2 years old. This activity would be great for kids aged 2 and up.
