Set Up

Version 1

OK so this activity evolved as we went along. At first I simply put the tubes (paper towel and toilet paper rolls) and squeeze pouch lids into a sensory bin and showed her how she could use the rolls as a chute.

This version was a total hit. She immediately started making up story lines for each cap as they slid down the tubes. She played this way for quite a while.

Version 2

The next evolution of this activity involved me taping a few tubes to the side of the bin. This again was a hit.

Version 3

For the next version I asked her to arrange the tubes and with my help we taped up a few more tubes in different directions.

This was amazing for developing her imagination, visual perception and problem solving skills. She had to figure out how to tape the tubes down so that they stayed up.

Independent Play

I am definitely guilty of stepping in to help my preschooler when she gets frustrated. Iris something that I am constantly working on as a parent. I tried not to instruct during this part and just allowed her to experiment but I did help her with the taping.

This activity was total hit and full of opportunities to develop key skills AND it was very easy and inexpensive to set up!
