Washi Tape Skeleton is a great activity to do during Halloween or during a preschool unit studying the human body.

Here’s how to get started.

WASHI TAPE SKELETON

On a black piece of construction paper draw the outline of a skeleton including the skull using a white liquid chalk marker.

There are several ways you can have your little one cut the washi tape. You can either hold it for them.

This is best for new scissor users or if your scissors have trouble cutting items other than paper. Or you can attach the white washi tape to the back of a chair or to a table and let your little one use the scissors to cut small pieces off.

(Check out Leaf Cutting Tray for details on teaching your little scissor rules).

Once your little one has cut a piece of washi tape off have them stick the washi tape on to a part of the skeleton.

I did not have all white washi tape so I used the one that had the most white in it.

Let them Stick it

For toddlers and preschoolers don’t worry about how or where they stick the washi tape. As long as it close to the line you drew as a reference, that it OK!

Have them continue to cut and stick along the skeleton until the entire skeleton’s body is complete.

Learning Opportunities

This is a great activity to help teach the basic bones in the body to older children. It is also great for teaching younger children all about bones and what skeletons are.

This does not have to be a scary activity and so is definitely appropriate for younger toddlers.

But if your little one starts to get scared stop the activity immediately and move on to something else.

Fine Motor Skills

This part of the activity is great for practicing scissor skills, something my happy kindergartner absolutely loves to do.

It is also a great way to work those all important finger muscles!
