Setting Up the Sensory Bin

Instructions

Making the Black Chickpeas

  • Pour the chickpeas into a ziplock bag, then squirt in a generous amount of black tempera paint.
  • Seal the bag, ensuring there's some air inside, and give it a good shake! Make sure all the chickpeas are coated evenly with the paint. This step is super fun and feels a bit like a maraca party in your hands!
  • Lay out wax paper on a flat surface and spread your freshly painted chickpeas out in a single layer. Let them dry completely, which might take a few hours or overnight, depending on the humidity. Pro Tip: if you need to dry them fast, pop them into the oven on low for a few minutes to speed up the drying process.

Setting Up the Sensory Bin

  • Pour the dried, black chickpeas into the sensory bin. This will be our spooky base!
  • Mix in the mini skulls, eyeballs, insects, and skeletons. They’ll be like the hidden treasures your kiddo will love discovering.
  • Place the mini skull buckets and scoopers in the bin. These are perfect for scooping, transferring, and unearthing hidden Halloween surprises!
