Salt Dough Pendants Necklaces

Servings: 0

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 cup water
  • Large bowl
  • Mixing spoon
  • Measuring spoons
  • Baking tray
  • Parchment paper
  • Small circle cookie cutters
  • Straw
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Mod Podge sealer
  • Yarn or string
  • Beads

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add water while stirring, until you form a dough with a consistency similar to Play-Doh. If the dough is too dry, add a bit more water a teaspoon at a time. If it's too sticky, sprinkle in a little more flour.
  • Once your dough is mixed, knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and firm. Dust your working surface with flour and roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Use the small circle cookie cutters to cut out your pendant shapes. Place these on a parchment-lined baking tray.
  • Take a straw and use it to poke a hole near the top of each dough circle. This is where you’ll thread the string later.
  • Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake the pendants for about 30 minutes per 1/4 inch of thickness, or until they turn light golden brown. Remember to turn them occasionally to ensure they dry evenly. If any bubbles form, gently pierce them with a pin.
  • Once your pendants are cool, paint them with acrylic paints in colors or designs of your choice. After the paint dries, apply a coat of Mod Podge to seal and protect the paint.
  • Cut a piece of yarn or string long enough for the necklace, and thread it through the hole in your pendant. Tie a knot at the top to secure it. Then, add beads to the string on both sides of the pendant for a decorative touch. Use an embroidery needle to thread the beads. Once complete, tie the ends together and trim the ends so they look clean!
