The vinegar helps the color set on the rice.Add Rice and Shake: Add the rice to the ziplock bag. Seal it and give it a good shake to evenly coat the rice with the pink color.Dry the Rice: Spread the colored rice on a sheet of wax paper and let it dry. This may take a few hours, so planning ahead is key.

How to Set Up Hearts & Gems Sensory Bin

  • Fill the Bin: Once the pink rice is dry, pour it into your sensory bin as the base.
  • Add Hearts and Gems: Scatter heart stickers, felt hearts, red heart gems, and red gemstones throughout the rice. These items will provide a fun and tactile contrast to the rice.
  • Include Tools for Exploration: Place heart bowls, spoons, or scoopers in the bin. These tools encourage kids to dig, pour, and explore the contents of the bin in different ways.
  • Invite Your Child to Play: Encourage your child to explore the bin. They can scoop and pour rice, find and sort hearts and gems, or simply enjoy the sensory experience.
