Here is a fun and easy colour sorting activity for toddlers and preschoolers. It’s a fun activity that is part STEAM, part fine motor practice and part colour recognition!

Here’s how to Set Up Magna-Tile Colour Sorting Boxes

Grab all the square pieces from your Magna-Tiles set and the items you want your little one to colour sort. For this activity, you can use pom poms, foam letters and numbers, small cars or anything you choose!

Part STEM
This is a great activity to do with young toddlers who are just learning how to play and build with Magna-Tiles. Help them to build a small box using the square tiles in each colour of the rainbow. Building a box is among the first things my daughter learned to do with Magna-Tiles and is an easy place to start for little ones.

Once all your boxes are complete line them up like a rainbow!
Part Fine Motor
I used squeeze pouch caps for this activity. My kids eat a ton of food pouches and so I have accumulated a large stash of them. They are great for colour sorting. They come is all the colours of the rainbow and they are the perfect size for picking up with tweezers.

Set out the squeeze pouch caps in each colour along with the tweezers.

Part Colour Sorting
Invite your little one to use the tweezers to sort the caps into the correct Magna-Tiles colour box.

All Fun
This was a fun and easy to set up activity and a great way for toddlers and preschoolers to learn and practice their colours as well as learn to build and play with Magna-Tiles!
