Setting up Acorn Counting for Toddlers
This activity is very simple to set up but a lot of fun. Not only is it great opportunity to practice counting with your toddler its also a great way to talk about Fall colours.
I put everything inside a large sensory bin in order to keep the blocks and acorns contained. You can very easily do this on the floor or carpet in your playroom.
Gather your Mega Bloks turned upside down in all the colours of Fall – red, orange, yellow, green and brown. Next add your acorns and you are done! Time to count!
Counting with Toddlers
My 18 month old toddlers do not know how to count on their own yet so I did all of the counting for them. I asked them to place one acorn inside each section of the upside down Mega Bloks and as they did I counted.
Mega Bloks are great for counting activities like this. They have separate sections so that your toddler can form a one to one correspondence when counting.
Counting can be a fun activity for young children. Incorporating it into daily play in a fun and natural way with acorns and Mega Bloks is a great way to practice this Fall.
