Here’s How To Set Up Rubber Duck Math Race

Gather your supplies. Have your child roll the dice and count out that number of magnetic tiles and move their rubber duck along the path created.

I played with this game with my kindergartner, so I rolled the dice next and then asked her to count out the number of magnetic tiles to match the amount on the dice. I then move my rubber duck along the magnetic tile path.

Next, my 4 year old rolled again and added that number of magnetic tiles to her path. I asked her to count how many total she had and also how many more she needed to roll in order get to 10.

The Goal of Rubber Duck Math Race
The goal of this game is to have your rubber duck reach the 10th magnetic tile first.

Rules of Rubber Duck Math Race
The rules of this math game are simple but you can play it two ways. We did play it both ways just to make it more interesting.

Version 1
First person to have their rubber duck reach 10 wins and it does not matter if you roll a number that gives you a number greater than 10.
For example, your rubber duck is on the 6th magnetic tile and you roll a six. You would still win because your duck will be on (and past) the 10th magnetic tile.
Version 2
First person to have their rubber duck reach 10 wins but to win you have to roll the exact number need to add up to 10. You can’t move your rubber duck if you roll a number that would take you past 10.
For example, your rubber duck is on the 6th magnetic tile and you roll a four. Your would win! If you roll a three you can move your rubber duck three magnetic tiles and roll again when it’s your turn. But if your roll a five your rubber duck has to stay put and wait to roll again when it’s your turn.

Total Hit
This was a bigger hit than I had expected! My little kindergartner is super competitive and loves to win so she was very into this fun math activity. She was adding and counting and eager to figure out what number she had to roll next in order to make it to 10 and have her rubber duck win the game! This was a definite winner!
