How to Set Up A Baby Cereal Sensory Bin

Lay out a sheet, table cloth or picnic blanket on the ground first underneath your large sensory bin to help catch the baby cereal that may spill out as your little one plays.

For this activity I actually decided to use our IKEA sensory table. My twins love to climb into sensory bins and so to prevent that from happening I purchase an IKEA FLISAT sensory table. These are great! Not only does it have two compartments so you are able to include two different sensory items, it also comes with covers so that you can keep a favourited sensory activity out for more than one day.

I also like this IKEA FLISAT sensory table because it allows for multiple children to play in their own spaces. This is perfect for twin toddlers still learning to share!

Add the baby cereal to the FLISAT sensory table. I used a box of old baby cereal that I had not used up when my twins were still at that stage. Instead of throwing it out I decided to use it in this taste safe sensory activity.

Add a few spoons, scoopers, play kitchen toys like cups, plates and pots and you are ready to roll!

Sensory Bin Play

I love open ended sensory bins like this one as my twins are able to play with it however they like and since they have completely different personalities they usually do.

My son will get his hands right into the baby cereal and then try to toss it. Instead of tossing it on the floor I directed him to toss it into the other sensory bin.

My daughter likes to use the tools like cups and spoons. She was scooping and digging in the baby cereal loving every minute of it.

Messy Play

If you are prepared for a sticky gooey mess you can add water to the mix or let your little one add water. The cereal will turn mushy and sticky but it was a lot of fun for my two!
