The Very Hungry Caterpillar Sticky Wall & Counting Activity

In honor of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day on March 20th, here is a fun sticky wall and counting activity for perfect toddlers and preschoolers.

Here’s how to set up The Very Hungry Caterpillar sticky wall and counting activity

The Very Hungry Caterpillar sticky wall

Grab your contact paper and sharpie.

Draw 5 large circles using a small paper plate as a guide on the contact paper. Make sure you don’t draw the circles on the paper side as you will be removing that. You want to draw them on the back of the translucent side.

Tape your contact paper up on the wall with the sticky side facing out.

Cut the red and green tissue paper into small squares and place them into bowls.

From the brown foam sheet, cut thin legs and antenna.

From the yellow foam sheet, cut two large ovals. Cut two slightly smaller green ovals.

Glue the yellow oval to the green oval to create the eyes of the caterpillar.

Cut out a small oval from the black foam sheet. This will be the caterpillar’s mouth.

Invite your little one to stick the create The Very Hungry Caterpillar starting with the eyes and mouth. And then the tissue paper, antenna and caterpillar legs.

Let them add the foam flowers around the caterpillar for additional decoration.

Using the red, green, orange, purple foam sheets to create; 1 apple, 2 pears, 3 plums, 4 strawberries and 5 oranges.

Cut out small brown stems from the brown foam sheet and glue them to the fruits that you cut out. Set them aside to dry.

Once dry you, read the story with your little one and use the foam fruits to retell the story of what the caterpillar at during the week. Have your little one stick the fruit up as you read it on the sticky paper and pretend that the caterpillar is eating them.
