Here is a fun little STEM activity that is perfect for Easter. I set this up for my kindergartner and my twin toddlers joined in as well.

Here how to set up sink the Easter egg Challenge

Fill your sensory bin with water. You will need to fill it with enough water so that you can see if the Easter eggs sink to the bottom.

Grab about 10 different items to test out. See the supplies list for ideas. We used things like Pom Poms, screws and coins.

For older kids have them create a chart where they can write down their guesses as to whether an object will sink the Easter eggs or not. For each item I had my 5 year old write out the items and then under the guess column write whether she though the item would sink or float the Easter egg.

Then I had her fill the Easter egg with the item and plop it into the water to test whether it would sink.

For some items, such as screws I had her test out how many screws would sink the Easter egg. For instance, one screw didn’t sink it but once she filled it with 8 it sank.

This is a great activity to talk about the science of how and why certain things float and other things sink.d
