Materials

  • Kids washable Yellow Paint
  • Paint brush
  • Q-tip
  • White and blue construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Marker or pen

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Handprint

Write to large ‘M’s on either side of a piece of white construction paper. Using a paint brush paint your child’s (or let them do it on their own) hand with washable yellow paint. Make a single yellow handprint between the two ‘M’s.

Step 2: Create the sun

Pour some paint into a bowl and use the q-tips to make the rays of sunshines all around the handprint. Write “You are my sunshine” below the sun with a marker or pen. This will serve as the main message of the card.

Step 3: Attach the clouds

Cut out some clouds from blue construction paper. Glue them above the sunshine.

Step 4: Personalize the card

Encourage your child to personalize the card with different decorations and embellishments. They can add stickers, glitter, or even draw a picture on the card. You can also have them write a special message on the inside of the card to make it even more meaningful for mom.

After completing the card, present it to mom on Mother’s Day! This will be a special and heartfelt gift that she will cherish for years to come.

Tips

  • To make the handprint if your child doesn’t like to have their hand painted you can trace it onto the construction paper using a pencil and cut it out.
  • If you don’t have yellow construction paper, you can use other colors and still create a sun-shaped decoration.
  • Encourage your child to personalize the card with their own unique touches, as this will make it extra special for mom.

Creating a “You are my sunshine” handprint card is a fun and easy craft project that you can do with your child to create a meaningful and memorable Mother’s Day gift. With just a few basic supplies and some creativity, you can create a beautiful card that expresses your love and gratitude for mom. This project is perfect for children of all ages and provides a great opportunity for quality time together while developing fine motor skills and creativity. Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.

This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
