Halloween I Spy Printable

This Halloween I Spy printable is filled with adorable Halloween pictures for children to search, find, and count.

Little learners will look closely at the busy Halloween scene to find different items, including jack-o’-lanterns, ghosts, black cats, bats, witches, zombies, skeletons, spooky trees, and more!

At the bottom of the printable, children will find a picture checklist featuring the Halloween items. They can count how many times each picture appears and write the number in the matching box.

It’s a fun Halloween counting activity that encourages children to slow down, look carefully, and practice their early math skills.

Materials

You only need a few simple supplies:

  • Free Printable I Spy Halloween Activity
  • Printer
  • White printer paper
  • Pencil, crayons, or markers

That’s it!

How to Play Halloween I Spy

  1. Start by printing the free Halloween I Spy worksheet. You can print it in color or black and white.
  2. Invite children to look closely at the Halloween scene and search for the different pictures shown at the bottom of the page.
  3. Have children count how many times they can find each Halloween item. They can point to the pictures as they count or lightly mark each one with a crayon to help keep track.
  4. Once they’ve counted an item, children can write the total in the matching box at the bottom of the printable. Continue until they’ve found and counted all the Halloween pictures!
  5. The second way to use the I Spy Halloween printable is to print out the larger version. Secure the sheet to a table using some painters tape. Then place a glass dish over top that completely covers the sheet. Fill the glass dish with about an inch of water. Then add some Halloween colored paint and mix it using a whisk or fork until the water is opaque and you can’t see the fall I spy sheet underneath.
  6. Hand your child a glass and invite them to place it in the colored water like a magnifying glass to find the different fall items on the sheet. Once they find an item invite them to check it off the printable check list!

Helpful Tips

Use crayons to keep track. Children can color or circle each picture as they find it to avoid counting the same item twice.

Start with one item at a time. Younger preschoolers may find it easier to search for all the pumpkins before moving on to another picture.

Work together. If the page feels a little challenging, count the pictures together or have children work with a partner.

Laminate for repeated use. Laminate the printable or place it inside a dry-erase pocket. Children can use dry-erase markers to complete the activity again and again.
