This is a great activity for toddlers all the way up to kindergarten aged kids to help them learn and practice recognizing the letters of their names and the names of their family members.
Here’s how to get started!
The set up for this activity is super simple and can be done either while your kindergartner waits patiently like mine did or while your toddler or preschooler are napping.
Tape a large sheet of white paper down on the floor. You are going to want it to be large enough to write out your child’s name.
My happy four year old only has four letters in her name but if your child has a longer name you will need a bigger sheet of paper.
For my four year old I also wrote out Mom and Dad as well as the names of her twin brother and sister.
For toddlers and preschoolers, I would just stick with their own names.
You are going to want to make their names large enough so that they can place the Mega Bloks along the letters without the blocks getting too crowded.
This can cause some frustration for little ones, so make sure to give them lots of space between each letter.
Rainbow Names
Once you have written out the name or names that you want your little one to practice, show them how to place a block on the letter to recreate the letter.
Total Hit
This turned into a super fun and colourful activity that we will definitely do again!
My happy kindergartner loved figuring out which block would best fit in each spot. Switching out bigger blocks for smaller ones so that each letter looked great!
Lots of Opportunity for Learning
For toddlers and preschoolers, make sure to help them out when necessary and always vocalize what letter they are working on.
Even if they don’t know their letters yet, hearing it from you is important to their learning it eventually.
This activity is also great for learning colours!
