In our house playdough is queen. If I’m stuck for an idea of how to entertain my three year old I will pull out the playdough and voila she is instantly happy and engaged.
Most of the times we use our regular playdough tools when playing with it but occasionally I like to switch it and add a new element like our construction tools or shape puzzles.
But rarely do we use playdough in an open ended process art activity like this one.
For Playdough Sticky Wall Mural the end product isn’t what’s important (although you will likely end up with something pretty amazing!) — it’s the process.
The opportunities for learning are immense with open ended art activities like this from developing their imagination and spatial reasoning to sensory exploration and fine and gross motor skills.
So let your child explore the playdough like never before and create something on their own.
Here’s what you’ll need to get started

Set Up Sticky Wall
Get out your contact paper, cut a decent size off and tape it to a wall or window sticky side facing out using the painter’s tape. Tape all around the sticky paper. As your toddler or preschooler adds playdough, it will get heavier.

As an old granny who babysits her great grandson age 3, I am liking some of these stickywall activities. FAQ do you throw the contact paper away each time or do you reuse? Can’t see pulling Pom poms or paper off the contact paper.
It depends. If we are sticking up cotton balls or Pom Poms or paper or even playdough the contact paper usually will only last for one activity. But if we are sticking up puzzle pieces or straws or craft sticks or anything that doesn’t leave a residue I will absolutely use it again. I usually end up just keeping it up on the wall and then we will come back and play with it whenever I need a distraction!! I will often leave it up for a few days each time. But I don’t usually save it once I take it down.
I love this idea! New take!
Thank you!
Thanks!
What a good and dedicated mom. I love this idea but hate the playdough mess and I never take the time to sort the colors. This looks like so much fun and a wonderful activity. Awesome idea!
Thank you. I know what you mean. And my preschooler LOVES to mix colours. I usually just grin and bare it cause she’s happy!
Great way to keep the mess in one area. Great for us mommies too!
This is one of my daughter favorite to play, I have bought so many dough lol. What a great idea to have the toddler occupied. I love it.
Thank you! Playdough is great at keeping toddlers busy!
Way past the toddler/preschooler age with teens and tweens in my house but this is such a cool idea.. there might be other uses for this (somehow with my girl scout troop maybe 🙂
Lol oh for sure!!
My daughter and I did something similar just the other day. You have such great ideas for toddler activities.
Thanks so much!
