How to Set Up Pumpkins and Play Dough
Grab your orange play dough. Here’s our favourite homemade no-cook play dough recipe. It’s my absolutely favourite recipe! Her secret ingredient makes all the difference. The play dough is better than anything you buy in the store!

Grab your gourds. I used a selection of seasonal gourds and mini pumpkins in different colours, shapes, sizes and textures. I wanted ones that would have fun and unusual prints in the play dough.

How to Play
Both my twins immediately grab a gourd and started to put them into the play dough. At first they just stuck them in and enjoyed that! We talked about the colours, the textures, the size and weight.

Then I showed them how to roll the pumpkins and gourds in the play dough to create unique prints. The bumpy pumpkins made the best ones!

We also manipulated the play dough around and on the pumpkins. For older kids, you can have them create faces using the play dough. For my toddlers, we rolled up pieces of play dough and started to wrap it around the pumpkins for a great fine motor activity.

Skill Development Opportunities
This activity is great for Colour Recognition, Language and Vocabulary Development, Hand-Eye Coordination, Fine Motor Skills, Problem Solving, Emotional Development, Trial & Error, Visual Perception, Cognitive Development, Imaginative and Sensory Play.

Age Suitability
My twins were 20 months at the time of this activity. This activity is ideal for 18 month old toddlers to 4 year old preschoolers.
