Handmade Christmas cards are such a special way to spread holiday cheer, and this 3D Ornaments Christmas Card craft is a fun and creative project for kids and adults alike. My kids loved creating these cards and adding their own touches to each ornament. Watching the flat paper come to life with 3D details made the craft extra exciting, and they couldn’t wait to share their creations with grandparents and aunts and uncles. It’s a simple, hands-on way to make the season even more festive.

This craft combines creativity and holiday fun while producing something that’s meaningful and personal. Kids will love the process of folding, gluing, and decorating the ornaments, and you’ll love how stunning the final cards look. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to teach kids about giving and the joy of making something by hand.

Why You’ll Love This Christmas Card Craft

You’ll love this card craft because it’s easy to customize, affordable, and the results are beautiful. Whether you’re looking for a fun activity to do with your kids or want to make thoughtful, handmade cards for loved ones, this project is perfect. The 3D effect adds a unique twist, and kids will feel so proud of their finished designs.

Materials You’ll Need:

  • White cardstock
  • Construction paper in different colors
  • Roll of small tape or any circle-shaped object to trace
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Gold Posca pen
  • Gemstones

How to Make a 3D Ornaments Christmas Card

1. Prepare the Card Base

Fold a piece of white cardstock in half to create the card base. Set it aside while you prepare the ornaments.

2. Create the Ornaments

Choose a variety of colored construction paper for the ornaments. Use a roll of tape or any round object to trace circles onto the construction paper. Trace at least eight circles for each ornament. Cut out the circles carefully with scissors.

3. Make the 3D Ornaments

Fold each circle in half, creating a sharp crease down the middle. Glue one folded circle to another along one of the folded edges. Repeat with at least 6 more circles until you have a 3D ornament shape.

4. Attach the Ornaments to the Card

Glue the flat back of each 3D ornament to the front of the card. You can add one, two, or three ornaments depending on your design. Leave enough space above each ornament for the strings.

5. Add the Strings and Details

Use the gold Posca pen to draw a string from the top of each ornament to the top edge of the card, making it look like the ornaments are hanging. Add a bow at the top of each string for extra detail.

6. Decorate the Ornaments

Use the gemstones to add sparkle to the ornaments. Kids can get creative with patterns or place them randomly for extra shine.

7. Write Your Message

Open the card and help your child write a festive message inside. You can also use the gold Posca pen to add decorative elements around the card’s edges.

This 3D Ornaments Christmas Card is a fun, festive craft that kids and adults will love. It’s simple to make, looks amazing, and adds a personal touch to your holiday greetings. Your friends and family will be delighted to receive a handmade card that’s as special as the season itself!

TV Show: Curious Crafting

I’m so excited to share my crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched in July 2022 on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube! Season 2 aired in August 2023! My show was also nominated in 2023 for Best Live Action Preschool Series by the Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence.

Curious Crafting Season 1 is also now airing in Australia on ABC! Watch it here!

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.

This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
