Juneteenth Flag Sticky Wall

Putting Up Your Sticky Wall

Note: the picture from this tutorial are done inside but for this activity I took it outside and place the sticky wall on our wooden fence. I used brown packing tape to secure the contact paper to the wall using the same method explained below.

Before putting up your sticky wall, draw the outline of a Juneteenth Flag on the contact paper using a black sharpie. The flag has a star in the center, a 12 point star burst around it and them dark blue on the top and red on the bottom.

Contact paper has one side that is very very sticky, so unrolling it and taping it to a wall can be a little tricky. Here’s how I do it:

Step 1

Stick the sticky wall up on the wall using small rolled up pieces of tape in the four corners. Make sure the paper backing side is facing out.

Step 2

Peel the paper backing off to expose one small corner of the sticky paper. Continue peeling the paper backing off until one side is exposed. Tape that side down fully using Painter’s tape. This will ensure that it doesn’t fall down as your child is playing.

Step 3

Slowing peel back the remaining paper backing and tape down the other side.

Step 4 (optional)

Remove the small rolled up pieces of tape from underneath the sticky wall. These rolled up pieces were just there to help you get the sticky wall set up and can be removed once your sticky wall fully up. But if you don’t mind them there you don’t have to remove them.

Fill in the Juneteenth Flag

Grab your red, white and blue tissue paper and cut it into squares. Let your little one stick up the tissue paper on the flag. Before doing this activity take a look at the flag together and identify the colours and where they are placed. Refer back to the flag as your child completes the activity so that they know where to place each colour.

This was a total hit! I love sticky walls and I love doing them outside!
