We are in full Halloween mode here and it’s glorious! I’m not normally a big Halloween fan but for some reason this year I am really getting into it. I think it’s because my eldest, now four, is curious and excited about the scary and creepy aspects of Halloween so I am excited for her to experience it!
One craft supply that comes out every Halloween are the spooky coloured googly eyes normally we just use the black and white googly eyes but at Halloween these ‘special’ googly eyes come out.
In this easy to set up activity your toddler or preschooler will trace their names with spooky Halloween googley eyes!
Here’s what you’ll need to get started!
Write your child’s name on a piece of paper. The number of googly eyes you have will determine how big you will write out your child’s name. Another factor will be how many letters are in your child’s name.
My daughter’s name only has four letters so I wrote it out on a single sheet of paper. If your child has a long name and you don’t have enough googly eyes to cover the entire name you can have them space out the googly eyes along the letters. It’s not necessary for them to cover their entire name.
Place one googly at the point where your little one will start placing eyes on each letter. This is to show them where to start as if they were writing. It will also give them an idea which direction they will place the eyes.
This is a great way to help prepare them for writing in the classroom. But remember this activity is supposed to be fun so if your little one wants to place the googly eyes out of order don’t stress. They will eventually get it. Place the eyes in a container beside your child and ask them to start covering their name with them.
