When you think of a creepy Halloween scene what do you think of? Spiders and spider webs immediately come to my mind. Check out this fun and easy fine motor STEM activity for toddlers and preschoolers!
How to Set Up Balance the Spiders
Grab your large sensory bin and masking tape. Spread the tape over the top and sides of the sensory bin cross crossing it like a web. Be sure to leave large spaces for your toddler or preschooler to stick their arm through to grab the spiders that fall down.

Challenge your Toddler or Preschooler
Next, challenge your toddler or preschooler. Ask them if they can balance one spider on the tape web. Show them how, and if you have a little trouble let them see that. This is a challenge even for mom!

You can talk about how spiders use their webs to catch their food and how they are sticky and when bugs fly into the webs they get stuck there. If I was thinking I would have added a bug toy to the web!

Problem solve with them
Ask them what is the best way to get the spiders to stay on the tape. Which angle or side do they stay best?

Add tongs for extra challenge is they are up for it!

Fun Halloween STEAM Activity
How did my toddlers do? They carefully placed a few spiders on the web and then knocked a few down and had to start over again. And is all apart of the challenge!

I asked them, let see how many spiders we can place on the web without it falling down. I said “let see if we can put up 3“. Once we reached that I said, “let’s do 3 more!”
