Materials
To make a fingerprint heart craft for Mother’s Day, you will need the following materials:
- Black construction paper
- Other construction paper
- Washable kids paint in various colors
- Scissors
- Paper plate
Here are the step-by-step instructions:
- Fold a sheet of construction paper lengthwise and cut a heart shape out of the . This will be the template for your fingerprint heart.
- Place the construction paper with the heart cut out on top of the black construction paper. Tape it down in the corners to make sure it doesn’t move while your child painting.
- Squeeze a small amount of each color paint onto a palette or plate. You can use any colors you like, but pinks and reds are great for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.
- Dip the tip of your child’s finger into one of the paint colors and make a fingerprint on the black construction paper heart. Repeat with different colors until the heart is filled with fingerprints.
- Allow the paint to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
- Using scissors, cut out a banner from pink construction paper. Write a sweet message of Happy Mother’s Day.

TV Show: Curious Crafting
I’m so excited to share my crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched in July 2022 on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube! Season 2 airs in the summer of 2023! We were also nominated in 2023 for Best Live Action Preschool Series by the Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence.
Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.
In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.
