Materials

Baking soda
Vinegar
Spray bottles (filled with vinegar, blue food coloring, and a small amount of dish soap)

How to Make A Fizzy Jungle

Setting up the Fizzy Jungle:
Begin by spreading a layer of baking soda evenly on a tray or in a sensory bin. Arrange the jungle animal figurines and artificial leaves or plants on top of the baking soda, creating a vibrant jungle scene.

Introducing the Spray Bottles:
Fill the spray bottles with vinegar, adding a few drops of blue food coloring to one of the bottles for an extra visual effect. In another bottle, add a small amount of dish soap. These additions will enhance the fizzing reaction and create a bubbly eruption when sprayed onto the baking soda.

Unleashing the Fizz:
Invite your children to become scientists as they hold the spray bottles and observe the magical reactions that occur when vinegar comes into contact with baking soda. Encourage them to spray the vinegar onto the baking soda, focusing on different areas of the tray to explore the varied reactions.

Observing and Experimenting:
As the vinegar interacts with the baking soda, a chemical reaction called an acid-base reaction takes place. Carbon dioxide gas is produced, leading to the fizzy eruption. TV Show: Curious Crafting

I’m so excited to share my crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched in July 2022 on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube! Season 2 airs in the summer of 2023! We were also nominated in 2023 for Best Live Action Preschool Series by the Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence.

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.
