What is Diwali?
Diwali is a celebration of peace, prosperity and a chance to honour hard work.
Diwali is India’s largest and most important holiday of the year. The festival is named after the row of clay lamps or deepa that Indians light outside their homes to represent the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. This festival is as vital to the faith of Hindus as the Christmas holiday is to Christians.
When is Diwali Celebrated?
It is a Hindu festival celebrated that is celebrated the fall, in either October or November. In India and Nepal is one of the most significant festivals.
Origins of Diwali
The festival is based in an ancient story about Lord Rama. Diwali honors the victory of Lord Rama over evil. The story tell of a huge victory that Lord Rama achieved over Ravana. Once victorious, he returns home after 14 years to be crowned king. The people celebrated for ten days with fireworks, music, dancing, lights, and feasts.
