Dia de Los Muertos is lively Mexican celebration where families honor their ancestors.

It merges All Souls’ Day, a holiday that Spanish invaders brought to Mexico and the ancient Aztec custom of celebrating ancestors.

It is celebrated mostly in Mexico on November 1 and 2.

How do People Celebrate Dia De Los Muertos?

The celebration starts at home with an altar filled with candles. The candles are used to help light the way so spirits are able to find their way back to their family members. The favorite foods of the deceased are also left at the alter or items beloved such as a books.

The celebration continues at the graveyard with a large party. Relatives prepare a massive feast to enjoy while they clean tombstones, chat with their ancestors and sing songs.

One of the iconic symbols of Dia de los Muertos are the skeletons. They can be made from clay, plastic or papier-mâché. The idea behind having the Skeltons is to remind the living that death is a part of life. Decorating with skeletons reminds people that one day they will to be skeletons.

TV Show: Curious Crafting

I’m so excited to finally share my new crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched July 1 at on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube!

This show is all about fun and easy crafts for toddlers and preschoolers.

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.
