Here is a simple to set up this magnet pre-writing activity for toddlers and preschoolers that you can easily set up on your fridge. Its a great activity to set up in the morning while you have your coffee!
Here’s how to set up Fridge Magnet Pre-Writing Activity
Grab your painter’s tape and use it to create lines on your fridge. For pre-writing activities I like to make straight lines, and zig zag lines to resemble the types of lines that your little one will eventually creating when they are writing letters.
Put all your magnetic object above the lines. You can use magnetic tiles, or fridge magnets to do this activity. Ask your little one to line up the object on the line from left to write the direction that they will have to follow when learning to write.
How they played
My toddlers at 25 months had little interest in putting the magnets in a line in order! Lets just say that right off the bat but that’s OK they are still learning and its my job to teach them how this type of activity is meant to go.
I started off by placing a few of the dinosaurs and cars on the line starting at the left. I asked them to place one right beside mine. They continued for a little bit and them started to fill in the line at any empty spot.
I gently asked them to place it back beside mine on the left side. They eventually came back but for the first pre-writing activity like this that they have ever done they did pretty well. We will be doing many more of these before they start to actually right to be sure to check them all out here!
