These DIY Cutting cards are super simple to create and make a great busy bag idea for Halloween or anytime of the year!
Here’s how to get started!
Cut the construction paper into long cards.
Place stickers at the top of each card.
Draw straight lines, angled lines and curved lines coming from the Halloween stickers.
I used zombies, bats, black cats, jack-o-lanterns and other Halloween themed items.
Then let me 4 year old choose a pair of scissors to use.
Model Model Model
This is the first time we have done structured cutting activity like this.
In the past I would just let her cut any way she wanted.
So before this activity I modeled how to cut along the curved and angled lines.
I showed her how to hold the paper and move it so that she could cut properly.
She picked up on how to do it quite quickly and finished the card I made and asked to do more!
Variety variety
I gave her five different pairs of scissors (some of these scissor came with more than one type).
- Maped Kidicut Safety Scissors
BCP 3 Pieces Safety Paper Cutting Scissors
- Westcott Right or Left Handed Kids Scissors
- School Smart Loop Scissors
Some I already knew would work easily and others that would be a challenge. I then let her explore the different pairs to find the ones she liked the best.
