Leaf Letter Match Sticky Wall for Preschoolers

Practice letters this fall with this colourful leaf letter sticky wall. Create leaf letters on fallen leaves from outside and match them on a sticky wall. A great outdoor or indoor activity for preschoolers and kindergartners.

How to Put Up Your Leaf Letter Match Sticky Wall

Contact paper has one side that is very very sticky, so unrolling it and taping it to a wall can be a little tricky. Here’s how I do it:

Step 1

Stick the sticky wall up on the wall using small rolled up pieces of tape in the four corners. Make sure the paper backing side is facing out.

Step 2

Peel the paper backing off to expose one small corner of the sticky paper. Continue peeling the paper backing off until one side is exposed. Tape that side down fully using Painter’s tape. This will ensure that it doesn’t fall down as your child is playing.

Step 3

Slowing peel back the remaining paper backing and tape down the other side. You can either use painters tape or masking tape but I find the duct tape works best on a fence. Test it before using.

Step 4 (optional)

Remove the small rolled up pieces of tape from underneath the sticky wall. These rolled up pieces were just there to help you get the sticky wall set up and can be removed once your sticky wall fully up. But if you don’t mind them there you don’t have to remove them.

  1. Once the sticky wall is up, take your black sharpie and write capital letters of the alphabet on the sticky side of the contact paper.
  1. Invite your little one to collect 24 fallen leaves they love.
  2. Take the sharpie and write the lower case letters of the alphabet on each leaf.

How to Extend the Learning with Leaf Letter Match Sticky Wall

As they are matching the letter leaf to the contact paper, invite them to identify the letter as well as to tell you what sound it makes. For older kids, you can also invite them to tell you a word that begins with that sound. You can help them by giving them clues! Make it fun! This is a great activity to setup outside on a nice fall day or inside.

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.
