AHEAD: Moon Rock Letters is a fun space themed letter matching activity and sensory bin for toddlers and preschoolers.
Wrapping little surprises in foil for toddlers to unwrap has been a favourite of mine for as long as I can remember. In this fun letter sensory bin activity, my toddlers unwrapped and matched moon rock letters (basically fridge magnet letters wrapped in foil).
I kid you not they loved this and did it 3 or 4 times. And once they were done matching letters, they played with the space toys!

Moon Rock Letter Set Up
Wrap your fridge magnets in aluminum foil. You can also have your toddler or preschool do the wrapping with you to extend the activity. These will be your moon rock letters
Fill your sensory bin with black navy beans and add your letters wrapped in foil and stars. Add your space toys. Finally, on a piece of paper, write down the letters that you wrapped.
Invite your toddler or preschooler to unwrap the moon rocks letters and match the letters to the correct letter on the sheet of paper.
This is a great letter match activity that can also turn into a fun pretend and imaginative play activity. Another great way to extend this activity is to read a book about astronauts and space before doing this sensory bin.
This sensory bin is ideal for 2 years old toddlers and up. My twins are 2.5 years old.
Moon Rock Letters is great for developing letter recognition, colour recognition, language development, hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, imaginative play, creativity.
