Inside: Muddy Zoo Sensory Bin is a fun sensory zoo themed activity for toddlers and preschoolers. It’s the perfect sensory bin to take outside in the spring and summer!

I recently started preparing our garden for some spring planting and consolidated a few planters. This left me with a lot of soil in planters that I didn’t just want to toss in the garden. So since we were heading the the zoo in a few days I decided to toss a bunch of the soil into a sensory bin and add some zoo animals for a fun mud sensory activity.

I also had a few bottles of shaving gel that I purchase accidentally. When I bought it and had thought for sure it would never get used but it turns out to be a fun way to add a sensory element to small world activities like this one.

I sprayed the gel on one side of the sensory bin and placed the hippos there and on the other side I put the dirt and other zoo animals. I also added a few weeds the garden for greenery.

My kids ere very eager to get their hands into this activity and quickly mixed the two sides creative and muddy slimy soup. It was glorious! They played, made soups for the animals to eat, let the hippo splash around in the swamp while the lions chased the zebra through the muddy!

Clean up

This was tons of fun for the kids. Like most sensory bins they absolutely loved it! To clean up I rinsed everything off with the hose since we were outside and was done. It was definitely a messy sensory activity but the time they spent playing was worth the mess!
