There’s something about roads and cars that sparks a kid’s imagination, and when you combine that with learning, it’s a win-win!

These number tracing road cards turn practicing numbers into a fun, hands-on activity that preschoolers and kindergartners will love.

These cards are designed to help children trace numbers as they “drive” along the number roads with dry-erase markers, their fingers or cars. It’s an engaging way to improve motor skills and build number recognition all while keeping things playful.

Why You’ll Love these Number Tracing Cards

For young kids, tracing activities are more than just doodling on a page. They help develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and build the foundation for writing.

When kids trace numbers on these road-themed cards, they also learn the correct formation of numbers and strengthen their pencil grip—all while pretending to drive!

It’s a clever way to sneak in some educational fun, and because they’re reusable with write and wipe pockets, these cards can be used over and over.

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Number tracing road cards (download and print below)
  • Dry Erase Pockets
  • Dry erase markers
  • Toy cars

How to Set Up:

  1. Print the Number Tracing Road Cards: Start by printing out your set of number tracing road cards. You can easily download the cards above and print them on to printer paper.
  2. Insert Cards into Write and Wipe Pockets: Cut around the outline of each card and then slip each printed card into a write and wipe pocket. This makes the cards reusable and easy to clean off for the next round of tracing.
  3. Grab Your Dry Erase Markers: Provide your child with dry erase markers, toys cars or they can use their finger, so they can “drive” along the road number.
  1. Start Tracing: Encourage your child to trace the numbers by “driving” along the road lines. Remind them to follow the correct direction for each number.
  2. Wipe Clean: After tracing, simply wipe off the cards with a cloth or tissue, and they’re ready to use again!

Skills Learned:

  • Fine Motor Skills: Tracing helps kids strengthen the muscles in their hands and fingers, improving their control when writing.
  • Number Recognition: Repeatedly tracing the numbers helps reinforce their shapes and order.
  • Hand-Eye Coordination: Kids must carefully follow the lines, improving their ability to control hand movements with their eyes.
  • Pre-Writing Skills: These tracing exercises are a great prep for handwriting, teaching kids how to hold a marker and form numbers properly.

TV Show: Curious Crafting

I’m so excited to share my crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched in July 2022 on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube! Season 2 aired in August 2023! My show was also nominated in 2023 for Best Live Action Preschool Series by the Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence.

Curious Crafting Season 1 is also now airing in Australia on ABC! Watch it here!

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.

This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
