There’s something so satisfying about letting kids explore paint in simple, hands-on ways—and this pom pom painted Easter egg craft totally delivers. No fancy tools, no pressure to stay inside the lines, and no wrong way to do it. Whether your kiddo loves to make bold dots, layer colors, or smoosh paint everywhere (been there), this activity is a fun and easy way to get creative for spring.
We’ve included a free printable Easter egg template to keep things simple—just print, paint, and go. This one is toddler-tested, preschooler-approved, and cleanup is surprisingly painless (you’re welcome).
Why You’ll Love This Pom Pom Painted Easter Egg Craft
- Great for fine motor skills – Holding the pom pom with a clothespin or fingers gives little hands a good workout.
- Zero pressure – This is true process art. There’s no “perfect” end result.
- Easily adaptable – Want to add glitter or stickers afterward? Go for it.
- Fast setup, fast cleanup – Just how we like our weekday crafts.

Materials You’ll Need
- Free printable egg template (download it from the post!)
- White cardstock or printer paper
- Washable kids’ paint (spring colors like pink, yellow, teal, purple)
- Pom poms (medium or large size)
- Clothespins (or just fingers if you’re brave)
- Paper plate or paint tray
- Smock or old t-shirt (optional but recommended)
How to Set Up and Create
- Start by printing the free Easter egg template on white cardstock. If you don’t have cardstock, regular printer paper works—it just might get a little floppy if paint gets heavy.

- Pour a few paint colors onto a paper plate or tray. Clip each pom pom into a clothespin (this makes them easier to hold and keeps hands a bit cleaner). You can also skip the clothespins and let kids dip the pom poms straight in with their fingers.

- Let your child dip the pom pom in paint and dot, dab, or stamp all over the egg. They can create patterns, use one color or mix a few, or even layer different dots on top of each other. There’s no right or wrong way to decorate the egg—it’s all about the process.

- Once your little artist is done, lay the egg flat to dry. If you want to turn it into a decoration, you can cut it out once dry and hang it in a window or string up a few to make a festive Easter garland.

This pom pom Easter egg craft is all about exploring color and texture while sneaking in some fine motor skill building. It’s a low-stress, high-fun way to get creative and enjoy a little seasonal art time with your kids. Download the free egg template, grab some paint, and let those tiny hands do their thing.
