Create a fun and colourful learning activity for your toddler using their shape sorting toys! It’s a wonderful way to learn colours, shapes and more!

Pom Poms are a great learning and sensory tool for toddlers and preschoolers.
It is the most used supply that I have and the best investment I ever made.

I am so glad that I spent a little bit more and got a decent bunch of pom. There are so many ways that you can use them from learning activities to sensory activities to crafts and more.
How to Play Pom Pom Shape Sorting
Place pom poms in a basket and set them beside your toddler’s favourite shape sorter.

Invite your toddler to drop pom poms down the different shapes and as they do call out the shapes. For verbal toddlers, ask them to tell you want shape they are dropping the pom poms down.

Don’t forget to include the actual shapes!
You can have your toddler color match the pom poms with the shapes and drop them down the shape sorter together.

Big Hit
This was a huge hit with my 18 month old twins. They loved plopping the pom poms through the different shapes and dumping them out and doing it all over again. Although they were not able to say the names of the shapes, they were able to start recognizing the shapes when I asked them to put a pom pom down a certain shape!

Safety First
I love pom poms and so do my twin toddlers. But at 18 months they still love to put things into their mouth occasionally, so if your toddlers are like mine make sure you supervise them closely if you choose to do this activity with them.
Skill Development Opportunities
This activity is great for Fine Motor Skills, Colour and Shape Recognition, Language and Vocabulary Development, Hand-Eye Coordination, Problem Solving, Emotional Development, Trial & Error, Visual Perception and Cognitive Development.

Age Suitability
This activity is ideal for 16 month old to 2 year old toddlers.
