A twist on a fun and easy fall favourite!

A fun painting activity using seasonal gourds and mini pumpkins. Instead of painting the pumpkins and gourds themselves, we used them as paint brushes and made prints with them!

Seasonal Activities

Fall is a great time of year! The great outdoors offers up so many wonderful tools to use in activities. And although the produce at the markets gets a bit scarce and a little less local you can always find beautiful pumpkins and seasonal gorges!

There is something alluring amount mini pumpkins and gourds for little hands. They just seem to be a match made in heaven!

So much learning!

It may not look like it at first but this simple activity is chalk full of opportunities for your little one to develop key skills.

  1. Fine motor skills: when they are holding and manipulating the smaller gourdes;
  2. Gross motor skills when they are using the large pumpkins and gourdes; and
  3. Creativity and Imagination.

Set Up

I placed my washable paints into small paper plates (for easy clean up afterwards) and then had my three year old place a gourde/pumpkin in each.

Good messy fun

My preschooler loved this easy art activity! Unstructured good messy fun always wins in my house. Now hands did end up in the paint when she was done printing but that is all part of the sensory experience!
