Crafting during the holidays is a fantastic way to keep kids engaged, and this Textured Christmas Wreath is as festive as it gets! When I introduced this craft to my kids, they loved the sensory element of the textured rice and the bright pops of color from the pom poms. Watching their wreaths come together was so satisfying, and it was a great opportunity to talk about holiday traditions and decorations.
This craft combines sensory fun and creativity, making it a hit with kids and adults alike. The textured green rice creates a realistic, eye-catching wreath base, while the pom poms and ribbon add a festive flair. It’s a great way to work on fine motor skills, creativity, and holiday spirit all at once.

Why You’ll Love This Christmas Craft
You’ll love this craft because it’s simple to set up, budget-friendly, and packed with sensory fun. It’s perfect for kids of all ages, combining creativity with hands-on exploration. Plus, the finished wreath is something you’ll be proud to display or even give as a handmade holiday gift.
Materials You’ll Need:
- Green dyed rice (see instructions below)
- Red pom poms
- Paper plate
- Scissors
- Glue
- Red ribbon
How to Dye Rice Green
- Place uncooked rice in a large zip-top bag.
- Add a few drops of green food coloring and a teaspoon of vinegar or rubbing alcohol to the bag.
- Seal the bag and shake it until the rice is evenly coated with color.
- Spread the dyed rice out on a sheet of parchment paper to dry completely before use.
How to Set Up the Textured Christmas Wreath Craft
1. Prepare the Wreath Base
Cut the center out of a paper plate to create a ring shape. This will be the base for your wreath.
2. Apply Glue
Spread a generous layer of glue all over the paper plate ring. Make sure the entire surface is covered so the rice will stick well.

3. Add the Green Rice
Sprinkle the dyed green rice over the glued surface, pressing gently to ensure it sticks. Shake off any excess rice once the glue has dried slightly.

4. Decorate with Pom Poms
Glue red pom poms onto the wreath to mimic holly berries. Let your child decide where to place them for a unique and creative design.

5. Attach the Ribbon
Cut a length of red ribbon and tie it into a bow. Glue the bow to the bottom or top of the wreath for a festive finishing touch.

6. Let It Dry
Allow the wreath to dry completely before hanging or displaying.
This Textured Christmas Wreath is a fun, hands-on way to get kids into the holiday spirit. The sensory aspect of handling the rice and pom poms makes it extra engaging, while the finished wreath is a beautiful keepsake or decoration. It’s a simple, festive craft that’s perfect for the holiday season!
