INSIDE: Wooden Spoon People Craft is fun people craft to create for preschoolers and kindergartners. A cool craft to create adorable puppets for pretend play. Great to make along side a book about diversity and acceptance.

Grab your wooden spoons. I had smaller wooden spoons that I used that were the size of about regular small plastic spoons. You can also use larger wooden spoons for this activity.

Wooden Spoon People Craft

Grab your skin tone paints, brown, white and beige and black. Mix them together until you get a variety of skin tones. We painted four spoons in four different skin tones. Set them aside to dry.

Once dry it’s time to decorate them. Glue down different coloured yarn for hair. Grab some scrap fabric and wrap it around the spoon handle for clothes. Secure with glue. We also added buttons.

You can also dress your puppets using markers. Instead of fabric simply colour the body of the wooden spoon with markers and decorate with buttons.

Finally, give your puppets a face. Glue on googley eyes and draw a face with a black sharpie.

Play is at the core of learning during the early years and it can take many forms. One of the most important of these is sensory play because it engages all of a child’s senses (taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing) and has a enoumous positive impact on brain development.

My Sensory Play Kits are a fun and easy way to keep your child engaged while at the same time capitalizing on the benefits of sensory play to nurture their mind!
